Pick the right skin
Architectural asphalt shingles are the right answer for most Austin homes: 30-year class, algae-resistant granules for shaded north slopes, and a price that makes sense. Metal earns its keep if you plan to stay decades or your roof takes direct hail. Tile looks right on Hill Country stucco but needs a structure check first — it is heavy. Flat and low-slope sections get TPO or modified bitumen, never shingles.
- Architectural shingles — the default workhorse. Good hail ratings available in Class 4.
- Standing-seam metal — premium, quiet in rain with proper decking, excellent heat reflection.
- Concrete/clay tile — beautiful, heavy; we verify framing can carry it before quoting.
- TPO / modified bitumen — for low-slope porches, additions, and flat sections.
