A school of precision — Dallas, Texas

Yoga, taught
the long way.

BKS Iyengar Yoga Studio of Dallas is devoted to a single method: the yoga of B.K.S. Iyengar, taught to his standards. We put precision before performance. Every posture has an architecture — feet, legs, pelvis, spine, breath — and we teach you to build it deliberately, then hold it long enough to learn from it.

Classes run every week, online and in person, led by teachers who continue their own training year after year. Props line the walls — blocks, straps, bolsters, wall ropes, chairs — instruments that let a beginner find the shape honestly and an experienced student go deeper without force. Classes are recorded to our on-demand library.

Beyond the weekly schedule: weekend workshops with visiting teachers from around the Iyengar world. Begin in Foundations.

FoundationsBeginners

Where everyone begins. Standing poses, the logic of alignment, and how to use props from day one. No flexibility required — only curiosity. Most students spend their first months here; many return for years.

/ 02

Continuing PracticeLevel 2

Seated poses, twists, and first inversions, taught in sequences that build week upon week. Your teacher will tell you when you are ready — there is no test, only practice deepening.

/ 03

ExperiencedLevel 3

Longer holds, deeper backbends, advanced inversions — still governed by the same rule: alignment first. Expect detailed individual correction and sequences that ask for everything you have learned.

/ 04

Gentle & RestorativeAll levels

Supported postures, bolsters, and quiet. For recovery, older students, and anyone returning after injury or a long break. Tell the teacher about your condition before class; the props do the rest.

/ 05

PranayamaBreath

Breath as a discipline, not an afterthought. Seated breath work taught progressively, only after the body is prepared by asana. A short, serious class for students who want the practice to go inward.

/ 06

Weekend WorkshopsMonthly

Three-hour intensives with our senior teachers and visiting teachers from around the Iyengar world. One family of poses, taken apart and rebuilt. Announced first in the newsletter.

/ 07

On-Demand LibraryFor members

Classes recorded and posted. Practice the morning's sequence in the evening, repeat a workshop, keep up while traveling. Included for members.

First visit

Arrive curious.
Leave aligned.

No pitch at the end — only the next class. If you would rather talk to a teacher first, call (555) 010-2030.

  1. 1

Pick a Foundations class. Check the weekly schedule and choose any session marked Foundations — that is the designed entry point, whatever your background.

  2. 2

Arrive fifteen minutes early. Take blocks, a strap and a blanket from the wall. Introduce yourself to the teacher and mention any injuries — this is how the class gets tailored to you.

  3. 3

Wear fitted clothing, bare feet. Loose shirts hide the knees and spine your teacher needs to see. Practice on a relatively empty stomach, two to three hours after eating.

  4. 4

Come back within the week. Twice weekly is the honest minimum for the practice to take hold. After class, ask the teacher what to take next.
