About
the studio

Yoga That is a small, woman-founded Iyengar studio on Miami Beach's 41st Street, teaching since 2012. Our classes are alignment-based: every pose is broken down, measured, and rebuilt with blocks, straps, blankets, and chairs so that beginners and long-time practitioners work side by side. Nothing here is rushed. Postures are held, breath is watched, and teachers adjust you by hand. We run beginner courses, multi-level classes, restorative evenings, therapeutic back care, chair yoga for limited mobility, seated meditation, and one-to-one private sessions. Come as you are — stiff, sore, skeptical, or all three.

Iyengar Yoga — Multi-Level

The core of the studio. Standing poses, inversions, and seated work taught the Iyengar way: precise alignment, long holds, and props that let each body find the shape honestly. Teachers demonstrate, then correct. Expect to work — and to leave straighter than you arrived.

75 min · all levels · props included
02
Beginners

A slow on-ramp for people who have never done yoga, or who tried once and felt lost. We teach the names, the props, and the basic actions of the standing poses over a full month so nothing is skipped. Stiff hips and tight hamstrings are the normal starting point here, not the exception.

60 min · true beginners · 4-week enrollment
03
Restorative

Bolsters, blankets, and gravity do the work. Each posture is held for five to fifteen minutes while the nervous system downshifts. Popular with nurses, new parents, and anyone whose week has been too loud. Mats are laid out before you arrive; all you do is lie down.

75 min · all levels · evening sessions
04
Back Care

Therapeutic sequencing for backs that complain: traction with ropes and chairs, supported backbends over bolsters, and gentle twists that decompress rather than force. Taught in small groups so the teacher can see everyone. Not a substitute for medical care — many students come on a doctor's or physical therapist's suggestion.

60 min · small groups · intake form required
05
Chair Yoga

A full practice built around a sturdy chair: standing poses with support, seated twists, shoulder openers, and guided rest. Made for older students, anyone recovering from injury, and people who spend their days at a desk and want to move without getting on the floor.

45 min · gentle · no floor work required
06
Meditation

Thirty minutes of seated practice: a short settling sequence, breath observation, and silence. Chairs and cushions provided; you do not need to sit cross-legged. Beginners are welcome — the teacher gives simple, concrete instructions instead of vague ones.

30 min · all levels · Sunday mornings
07
Private Sessions

One-to-one teaching for injuries, performance goals, or a practice built around your schedule. The first session is an assessment: we watch how you move, ask about your history, and design the next sessions from there. Available in-studio or at your home in Miami Beach.

series

Series 01 · Enrollment

Foundations

A four-week beginner course that teaches the studio's whole vocabulary: the standing poses, how to use a block and strap without guessing, and how to practice safely at home. By week four you can walk into any multi-level class and follow along.

WEEKS 1–4 · TUE + THU 6:30 PM
GROUP max 12 · PROPS provided
What each week covers
  • Week 1 — Standing poses: Tadasana, Trikonasana, Virabhadrasana II. How the feet set up the whole pose.
  • Week 2 — Props: blocks, straps, blankets, chairs. What each one is actually for.
  • Week 3 — Seated poses and twists: Dandasana, Bharadvajasana, supported forward bends.
  • Week 4 — Putting it together: a full 60-minute sequence you can repeat at home.
Series 02 · Therapeutic

Back Care Clinic

Six weeks of targeted work for stiff, achy, or injured backs. We use rope-wall traction, chair-supported backbends, and long-held restorative poses to create space in the spine. Each student fills out an intake form so the teacher knows your history before the first class.

WEEKS 1–6 · WED 12:00 PM
GROUP max 8 · INTAKE required
What each week covers
  • Weeks 1–2 — Assessment and traction: learning what your back actually needs.
  • Weeks 3–4 — Supported backbends over bolsters and chairs; opening without forcing.
  • Week 5 — Twists and hip work that take pressure off the lumbar spine.
  • Week 6 — A personal 20-minute home routine, written down for you to keep.
Series 03 · Monthly

Restorative Sundays

A two-hour monthly reset: six fully supported postures, guided breathwork, and twenty minutes of Yoga Nidra to finish. The room is dim, the bolsters are stacked high, and talking stops at the door. Many students treat it as a standing appointment with themselves.

FIRST SUNDAY monthly · 4:00–6:00 PM
MATS pre-set · ALL LEVELS welcome
The two hours, in order
  • Supported child's pose and side-lying twist — arriving in the body.
  • Bolstered backbend and legs-up-the-wall — opening the front of the body.
  • Guided pranayama: extended exhale breathing, ten minutes.
  • Yoga Nidra in Savasana — twenty minutes of guided rest to close.

What makes Iyengar different

Iyengar yoga is the method developed by B.K.S. Iyengar: precision of alignment, intelligent sequencing, and the creative use of props so that a pose can be practiced correctly by any body. Postures are held longer than in flow styles, which builds strength and teaches you to observe yourself. Teachers in this lineage train for years before they are certified — expect detailed, hands-on instruction rather than a workout soundtrack.

First visit

Arrive 15 minutes early. Wear clothes you can move in. We provide mats, blocks, straps, blankets, bolsters, and chairs — bring only yourself. Tell the teacher about injuries or pregnancies before class starts; the Iyengar method is built on adapting poses, and we would rather adjust you than watch you struggle.

Questions

I've never done yoga. Where do I start?
Foundations, our four-week beginner course, or any Beginners class. You do not need to be flexible — flexibility is the result, not the requirement.
I'm injured / pregnant / over 65. Can I still come?
Yes, and this method is especially suited to you. Tell the teacher beforehand; we adapt every pose with props. Chair yoga and back care are designed for exactly these situations.
Do I need my own mat or props?
No. The studio is fully stocked with mats, blocks, straps, blankets, bolsters, and chairs.
How is this different from hot or flow yoga?
No heat, no rushing. Poses are held and refined. It is quieter, more detailed work — closer to learning an instrument than to a workout.
Can I just drop in?
Multi-level, restorative, chair, and meditation classes accept drop-ins. Foundations and Back Care Clinic require enrollment because they build week to week.
Where do I park?
Street parking on 41st Street and the surrounding blocks; the studio is a short walk from the Collins Avenue bus lines.
