The story

Celebrate you,
as you are, today

The Grinning Yogi opened on Capitol Hill in 2012 with a refusal: the language of not enough that fitness marketing runs on. In its place the studio put acceptance, compassion, and self-love. Bodies are here to be listened to and cherished, not graded. Yoga comes from the traditions of northern India and is practiced through the eight limbs; the studio keeps that lineage in view, sharing an old practice with care. Classes run vinyasa-led with a steady sense of humor, in rooms warmed lightly to 80–85°F. Beginners are welcome in every class.

10,000+ hours of training

The teaching team carries a combined 10,000+ hours of training. The roster includes an Olympian, professional dancers, and self-care experts. Every class stays all levels, with options for every body.
