The studio
A room that asks nothing of you except to show up
The Grinning Yogi opened on Capitol Hill in 2012 with a simple refusal: the language of not enough that fitness marketing runs on. In its place, the studio put acceptance, compassion, and self-love. The mission, in the studio's own words, is to celebrate you, as you are, TODAY.
Bodies are here to be listened to and cherished. Classes are vinyasa-led, taught with a steady sense of humor, in rooms warmed lightly to 80–85°F. Yoga comes from the traditions of northern India and moves through the eight limbs; the studio keeps that lineage in view, sharing an old practice with care.

The teachers hold a combined 10,000+ hours of training. The roster includes an Olympian, professional dancers, and self-care experts. Classes stay all levels, with options for every body in every class.
