The practice — four rooms, one roof

A studio built around the morning sun.

Surya means sun, and the name is the whole idea. This is a small Phoenix studio that opens its doors early, keeps class sizes human, and treats yoga the way it was always meant to be treated: a daily practice, not a performance. No mirrors on the walls, no leaderboard, no shouting over music. Just breath, heat, and a room full of people working on the same quiet thing at the same time. If you are brand new, you are not behind here. Half the room started exactly where you are.

01

Sun Flow

A moving morning practice built on the sun salutation. We link breath to movement and stay with it for a full hour, building heat slowly instead of all at once. Expect standing sequences, balance work, and a long cool-down. It is the class most people start their week with, and the one regulars say they miss when they travel.

Root Foundations

Slow on purpose. Foundations breaks the basic shapes down joint by joint, so beginners learn them right the first time and experienced students get to rebuild theirs. We hold poses longer, ask more questions, and use props without apology. If you have never done yoga, start here. If you have done it for years and something aches, start here too.

Still Yin

The quietest hour on our schedule. Yin is floor-based, slow, and still: a handful of shapes held for minutes at a time while the room stays low and warm. It is where runners, nurses, parents, and desk workers come to undo the week. Bring socks. Leave your phone in the cubby. You will be surprised how loud your own thoughts are at first, and how quiet they get by the end.

Breath & Sit

Thirty minutes, no movement at all. We practice the breathing patterns that sit underneath every yoga class — slow counts, held pauses, alternate-nostril rounds — and finish with a short guided sit. It pairs with everything on the schedule and stands alone just fine. Many students come for this on days their body says no to flow.

First visit

Come as you are.
We mean it.

Everything below is the stuff people ask about before their first class. Read it once, then forget it and just show up.

a.

Arrive ten minutes early

Doors open fifteen minutes before class and we start on time, every time. Ten minutes gives you space to sign in, find a spot, and lie down for a minute before anything begins. Rushing into a yoga room defeats the purpose, so we protect the start of class the way other places protect the end.

b.

Bring water, wear what moves

You do not need special clothes. Anything you can stretch, bend, and sweat a little in will do. We have mats to borrow for your first visits and props stacked along the back wall — blocks, straps, bolsters. Take whatever you need; nobody is keeping score on who uses a block.

c.

Eat light, hydrate early

Phoenix heat is real, and a heavy meal an hour before class is a mistake you only make once. Eat light two hours out, drink water through the morning, and bring a bottle. The room is warm by design, not hot-yoga hot, but you will still sweat.

d.

Rest whenever you need

Child's pose is always available and never a sign of weakness — our teachers take it mid-class themselves. If a shape does not work for your body today, skip it or ask for the simpler version. The only rule that matters is that you can breathe steadily through whatever you are doing.

Questions we hear every week

Q1I've never done yoga. Will I be lost?

No. The Foundations class exists exactly for this, and teachers demo every sequence in the morning flows too. Tell the teacher it is your first class when you arrive — they will keep an eye on you, quietly, without singling you out.

Q2I'm not flexible. Is yoga still for me?

Flexibility is the result, not the entrance exam. Stiff runners, stiff lifters, stiff desk workers — they are half our students. Props exist so every shape has a version that fits your body today.

Q3How hot is the room?

Warm, not hot. We keep the room a few degrees above comfortable so muscles loosen up, roughly the low 80s. It is not a heated-yoga studio and there are no 100-degree classes on the schedule.

Q4What if I need to leave early?

Take the spot closest to the door, slip out during a transition, and do not worry about it. Life happens. We would rather have you for forty minutes than not at all.

Q5Do you offer private sessions?

Yes, a small number each week, usually before the studio opens. People book them to work around an injury, to prepare for a first group class, or to go deeper into something specific. Call and we will find a time.

Q6Is there parking?

There is a shared lot right by the building and plenty of street parking within a block. Phoenix is a driving city; we picked this spot so you would not circle for twenty minutes before a 6 a.m. class.
