The dossier — 01
Most drain problems are found too late. We find them early — with a camera, before a shovel ever touches your yard.
Monsieur Drain is a Montreal drain-services company built around one conviction: you should never pay for excavation before someone has actually looked inside the pipe. Every job starts with an HD camera inspection. You watch the footage with the technician, you see the roots, the crack, or the grease — and the quote that follows is based on evidence, not guesswork.
From that first look, the team handles the full arc of drain work: unblocking (débouchage), drain and sewer cleaning, high-pressure jetting, sump pumps and water heaters, backflow valve installation, and — only when the camera proves it necessary — excavation and pipe replacement, inside or outside the building.
Basement flooding is the nightmare that drives most of our calls. The defense that actually works is a combination, not a single gadget: a backflow valve (clapet antiretour) against municipal surges, a French drain and sump pump to move groundwater away, and a camera check every year or two to catch the slow failures early.
We are licensed and insured (RBQ 5866-0770-01), we give free estimates, and when the damage is already done we help you assemble the insurance claim — photos, technical report, and answers for the adjuster. One call covers the diagnosis, the repair, and the paperwork.
Field note — A
Camera first, always
An HD camera travels the full length of your drain before anyone quotes a price. No blind digging, no "we'll see once we open it up."

Dig only if we must
Excavation is the last resort, not the first suggestion. When the camera proves a pipe has collapsed, we replace it — inside or outside — and leave the site clean.

The clapet antiretour
A backflow valve is the single most effective defense against a sewer backup. Several Montreal boroughs require one — and municipal rebates can offset the cost.
What we do — 02
The service index
Seven disciplines, one crew. Each starts with a look inside the pipe and ends with a site left clean.
Camera inspection
HD cameras map the inside of your drains and sewers in real time. You see roots, cracks, bellies, and blockages on screen with the technician — and every recommendation that follows is anchored to footage, not speculation.
Drain unblocking (débouchage)
Slow sinks, gurgling toilets, water rising where it shouldn't. We clear the blockage at its source — mechanically or with water — and confirm with the camera that the line runs free before we leave.
Drain & sewer cleaning
Grease, scale, and sediment narrow pipes silently for years. A scheduled cleaning every one to two years restores full diameter and is the cheapest flood insurance a homeowner can buy.
Excavation
When a pipe has collapsed, separated, or been invaded past saving, we excavate — inside the building or out in the yard — and replace the damaged section. Trench opened, pipe replaced, site restored.
Backflow valve (clapet antiretour)
Installed, serviced, and replaced. The valve slams shut when municipal sewage tries to surge back into your home — the device several Montreal boroughs now require, and the one rebate programs were written for.
High-pressure jetting
A focused jet scours the pipe wall clean — grease, roots, mineral scale — without chemicals and without tearing up the line. Ideal as a deep clean after unblocking, or as preventive maintenance.
Sump pumps & water heaters
Groundwater has to go somewhere: a properly sized sump pump with a reliable discharge line keeps the basement dry. We also service and replace water heaters, so hot water stops being a worry.
Where we work — 03
Serving Montreal and surrounding areas
From the West Island to Laval, from Westmount to Outremont — if your street sits on Montreal clay or an aging combined sewer, we have probably already worked on your block.
How we work — 04
Five steps, no surprises
Call
You describe the symptom — the gurgle, the smell, the water where it shouldn't be. Emergency line answers day and night; everything else gets a scheduled visit and a free estimate.
Camera diagnosis
The HD camera goes in first. You watch the live feed with the technician and see exactly what's wrong, where it is, and how deep — measured in metres from the access point.
Quote
A fixed, written quote based on the footage. Unblocking, jetting, valve, or excavation — you approve the scope and the price before any tool comes out of the truck.
Repair & cleanup
The work gets done, the camera goes back in to verify the fix, and the site is left clean — the standard we hold ourselves to. "Left everything clean" is not an accident; it's the checklist.
Insurance paperwork assist
If the backup already flooded the basement, we document the damage, write the technical report, and answer the adjuster's questions so your claim moves instead of stalling.
Sewage doesn't wait for business hours.
A backup in progress, a drain that just gave up, water rising in the basement after a storm — call now. Emergency crews run day and night across Montreal and the surrounding regions, and the first thing we do on arrival is the camera: know the enemy before you fight it.

Asked
often
Do you offer emergency drain service?
Yes — day and night. Backups, overflows, and post-storm flooding don't follow a schedule, so neither do we. Call the emergency line and a crew is dispatched with camera equipment on board.
How often should my drains be cleaned?
Every one to two years. Grease, soap, and sediment narrow pipes gradually; a scheduled cleaning restores full flow and catches the early signs of root intrusion or pipe failure before they become excavation.
What is a clapet antiretour — and do I need one?
It's a backflow valve, and in many Montreal boroughs, yes. It lets wastewater out but slams shut when the municipal sewer surges back toward your home — the main defense against a sewage backup. Several boroughs require one, and municipal rebate programs can help cover the installation.
How do I keep my basement dry?
No single product does it alone — the combination does. A backflow valve against sewer surges, a French drain plus sump pump against groundwater, and a camera inspection every year or two to catch slow failures early. After a major storm, a check-up is cheap peace of mind.
Will you help with my insurance claim?
Yes. We document the damage with photos and camera footage, write up the technical report the insurer asks for, and deal with the adjuster's follow-up questions. You focus on drying out; we handle the paper.
