01 / Services in detail
Steady practices, taught by people who've been doing this a long time.
Classic postures held with attention to breath and alignment. The backbone of the schedule.
Long, quiet holds — three to five minutes a pose — working deep connective tissue.
A softer pace for beginners, older bodies, injuries, or days when strong isn't on the menu.
Fully supported poses held in stillness — bolsters, blankets, and twenty minutes of doing nothing on purpose.
Guided breath sessions and seated meditation with guidance that actually helps. Cushions provided.
One-on-one work for injuries, specific goals, or a practice shaped entirely around you. In-studio or online.
The Hatha training, Class of 2027, January to September, with Melanie Richards and guest teachers.
Seasonal deep-dives — one theme at a time, through the year.
02 / The teacher
"A studio is a relationship — the teacher knows your name, your dodgy knee, and that you prefer the Tuesday evening class."
HappyTree Yoga has been part of southwest Montreal since 2007. Founded by Melanie Richards, it's the kind of studio where the teacher knows your name — steady, unhurried practices for real bodies and real weeks.
Alongside the weekly schedule, Melanie leads the 200-hour Hatha teacher training and the studio's online course platform, so the practice travels with you even when you can't make it to the room.
03 / How it works
Hatha for a classic practice, Yin for deep stillness, Gentle for a soft landing. Not sure? Come to Gentle first.
Drop in, introduce yourself, borrow a mat if you need one. Arrive ten minutes early.
Two classes a week changes how a month feels. Class passes make the regulars' rhythm affordable.
The 200-hour training, the online platform, workshops through the year — the practice grows with you.
04 / Students say
"That was an amazing hour. It took me to a very happy, calm place. I needed that."— Joan Gross, student

07 / FAQ
Start with Gentle yoga — a softer pace with props and options. Tell the teacher it's your first class and you'll be guided through the basics.
Hatha is active practice — postures linked with breath, building strength and mobility. Yin is stillness — long-held poses (3–5 minutes) targeting deep tissue. Many students do both.
The Class of 2027 runs January to September with Melanie Richards and guest teachers — a full Hatha training for future teachers and dedicated students. Applications are open now.
