What we teach

Steady practices, taught by people who have been doing this a long time.

01

Hatha yoga

Classic postures held with attention to breath and alignment. The backbone of the weekly schedule — strong enough to build heat, calm enough to leave clear-headed.

Weekly
02

Yin yoga

Long, quiet holds — three to five minutes a pose — working deep connective tissue. Bring layers; the room stays still and the practice does the work.

Weekly
03

Gentle yoga

A softer pace for beginners, older bodies, injuries, or days when strong isn't on the menu. Props, options, and zero pressure.

Weekly
04

Restorative

Supported, restful poses with bolsters and blankets — a full exhale of a class. Ideal after long weeks and short nights.

Weekly
05

Breathwork

Guided breathing practices that settle the nervous system — woven into classes and offered as standalone sessions.

Monthly
06

Meditation

Seated stillness to close the week — short, guided, and genuinely beginner-welcome.

03 · The studio

Nineteen years
of showing up.

HappyTree Yoga has been part of southwest Montreal since 2007. Founded by Melanie Richards, it's the kind of studio where the teacher knows your name, your dodgy knee, and that you prefer the Tuesday evening class.

We teach Hatha, Yin and Gentle yoga — steady, unhurried practices for real bodies and real weeks. Alongside the weekly schedule we run a 200-hour Hatha teacher training and an online course platform, so the practice travels with you even when you can't make it to the room.

04 · How it works

Start where you are.

01

Pick a style

Hatha for a classic practice, Yin for deep stillness, Gentle for a soft landing. Not sure? Come to Gentle first.

02

Try a class

Drop in, introduce yourself, borrow a mat if you need one. The teacher will show you where everything lives.

03

Make it a habit

Two classes a week changes how a month feels. Class passes make the regulars' rhythm affordable.

04

Go further

The 200-hour training, the online platform, workshops through the year — the practice grows with you.

05 · Go further

07 · Questions

Good to know.

I've never done yoga. Which class should I try?

Start with Gentle yoga — a softer pace with props and options. Tell the teacher it's your first class and you'll be guided through the basics.

What's the difference between Hatha and Yin?

Hatha is active practice — postures linked with breath, building strength and mobility. Yin is stillness — long-held poses (3–5 minutes) targeting deep tissue. Many students do both.

Tell me about the 200-hour teacher training.

The Class of 2027 runs January to September with Melanie Richards and guest teachers — a full Hatha training for future teachers and dedicated students. Applications are open now.
