Chapter 01 — The practice

Thirty years of Leeds gardens, one crew at a time.

Blakewood Landscapes has been designing, building and maintaining gardens from Morley since 1995. Three maintenance crews and two development crews — most of them with us for years — cover every part of the trade, from a leaning fence to a full redesign. Our work has been featured in Yorkshire Life; the jobs we talk about most are the ordinary ones done properly.

We are the people who dig the footings below the frost line, set the falls so the patio drains, and choose plants for Yorkshire weather rather than for a photograph. Fixed written quotes before we start. A tidy site every evening. The same crew who starts your job finishes it.

Chapter 02 — Services, indexed

Ten trades, one phone number.

01

Garden design & build

Full redesigns from bare lawn to finished garden — layout, levels, drainage, planting and lighting planned as a single job.

02

Patios & paving

Paths and patios in Indian sandstone, porcelain and York stone. Proper sub-base, correct falls, joints that stay put for decades.

03

Turfing & lawns

New lawns from bare soil: rotovate, level, quality turf, and honest aftercare advice. Re-turfing for tired grass.

04

Fencing

Closeboard, overlap panels, trellis, concrete-post systems. Storm-damaged runs replaced straight and true.

05

Stone & brick walling

Garden walls, raised beds and retaining walls, built plumb with footings below the frost line.

06

Tree pruning

Crown lifts, careful reductions, deadwood removal — timed for the tree's health and your light.

07

Pergolas & timber

Pergolas, arches and timber structures, postcreted deep and braced square for Yorkshire winters.

08

Water features

Ponds, rills and fountains with proper liners, filtration and planting — including wildlife-friendly designs.

09

Commercial grounds

Maintenance and landscaping for offices, schools, retail parks and housing developments. Annual contracts.

10

Maintenance contracts

Regular mowing, hedge cutting, weeding and seasonal tidy-ups — the same crew, the same standard, every visit.

Chapter 04 — Two kinds of client

Homes and the people who manage grounds.

Residential

Most domestic jobs start with a garden that frustrates its owner — the boggy corner, the patio that ponds, the fence leaning like dominoes after the last storm. We visit, listen, measure, and design for how you actually live: room for the dog, sun where the table goes, planting you can ignore if you'd rather be at work than weeding.

Every domestic job gets a fixed written quote, our own crew start to finish, and a site left tidy each evening. When we hand over, we walk it with you and leave planting notes — what to cut, when, and what to leave alone.

  • Free site visit & fixed quote
  • Own crews, no subcontract handoff
  • Tidy site every evening
  • Planting notes at handover

Commercial

Three dedicated maintenance crews look after commercial grounds across West Yorkshire — offices, schools, retail parks, new-build communal areas. Scheduled visits, litter picked, hedges crisp, lawns striped. One point of contact, a short report after every visit, and annual contracts that roll without drama.

We also build: entrance beds that survive foot traffic, courtyards staff actually use, planting schemes specified for low upkeep rather than opening-day photographs. References from current contract clients on request.

Chapter 05 — Method

Four steps, no surprises.

01

Walk the garden

We come to you, anywhere in Leeds, walk the space, hear what drives you mad about it, and take measurements. Free, no obligation.

02

Plain-English plan

A fixed written quote: what happens, what materials, what it costs. Anything unclear gets changed before we start, not after.

03

The build

Our own development crews do the work. Groundwork first, materials that suit the job, site tidy every night.

04

Handover & aftercare

We walk it with you, explain everything, leave planting notes — and offer a maintenance contract if you want us to keep it this way.

Chapter 07 — Questions

Asked often.

Do you give free quotes? +
Yes — every quote starts with a free visit. We come to your garden anywhere in Leeds, measure up, talk through what you want, and leave a fixed written quote. No obligation and no hard sell.
How much does a new garden cost? +
Ground conditions move the number more than taste does. Access, drainage, levels and demolition decide the price. The sample guide above gives a feel; the honest answer comes after we have stood in your garden.
Which areas do you cover? +
Leeds and the towns around it. Based in Morley: Wakefield, Bradford, Huddersfield, Halifax, Harrogate, Pontefract, Castleford and Dewsbury. Larger commercial contracts further afield — just ask.
Do you take on commercial grounds work? +
Yes, it is half the business. Three dedicated maintenance crews on annual contracts for offices, schools, retail parks and housing developments. References available on request.
When could you start? +
It depends on the season. Spring books up fastest; winter is usually quickest for build work. Maintenance contracts can start any time. Call and we will give you a real date.
