A family business with thirty years of wet boots.
Ben The Plumber is a local family business in Adelaide. We're Master Plumbers, licensed and insured, and we've spent more than three decades crawling under houses, up on roofs and down in trenches across metropolitan and regional South Australia.
Ask around the neighbourhood and you'll hear the same line back: we're the first and last call for your emergency plumbing problems. Not because we're the biggest outfit in town — because we answer, we turn up, and we fix it properly the first time.
Chapter 02 — What we do
Six trades. One phone number.
General plumbing
Leaking taps, toilet plumbing, washers, valves and all the small jobs other outfits won't touch. No job too small — if it carries water, we'll sort it. Half our week is ten-minute fixes someone else quoted a fortune for.
Blocked drains
Shower, toilet and stormwater blockages cleared properly. We camera-survey the line first so we know the cause, then clear it by hand or with a hydro jet — high-pressure water that scours the pipe clean from the inside.
The usual suspects: tree roots hunting cracks in old earthenware, grease and fat set like concrete, hair matted into a plug, and tissues and toilet paper overwhelming an old pan.
Leaking taps
Drip-drip-drip: litres wasted a day, a stained sink, and a noise that keeps you up. We reseat or replace washers and cartridges so the tap shuts off properly — usually on the first visit. If the body is worn out, we say so and quote a replacement instead of charging you twice.
Gas leaks & appliances
24/7 emergency gas leak detection and repairs. Gas is the one trade where "she'll be right" can kill you, so every suspected leak is treated as urgent. We also handle gas appliance breakdown, installation and repair, tracking hidden leaks with specialist detection gear.
Hot water systems
Gas, electric and solar — repaired, replaced and serviced. We work on the brands South Australians actually have: Rheem, Rinnai, Bosch, Thermann and Vulcan, so parts are rarely a drama and most repairs happen same-day.
Pipe re-lining
The non-intrusive fix for damaged stormwater and sewer pipes: a new lining installed inside the old pipe, no digging. Suits concrete stormwater drains, downpipes, sewer stack drains, pump lines and grease drains — one day's work, no excavation, no re-landscaping bill.
Chapter 03 — The 2am chapter
Smell gas? Don't wait for morning.
Our 24/7 emergency gas leak detection and repair line never goes to voicemail-to-nobody. Burst pipes and overflowing drains get the same treatment: emergencies jump the queue, day or night.
Five signs of a gas leak:

If you suspect a leak: don't touch light switches, turn the gas off at the meter if it's safe, open the windows, get everyone out — then call.

Talk to a plumber, not a call centre. We'll tell you honestly whether it's urgent and what it might involve.
Diagnose
We find the real cause before we quote. Drains get a camera survey; blockages are cleared by hand or hydro jet once we can see the problem.
Upfront price
You approve the price before we start. No hourly-meter anxiety, no surprise line items.
Fix
Done properly with parts that last — installed to code, the boring correct way.
Test & tidy up
Everything tested under load, then we clean up. It should look like we were never there — except everything works.

Chapter 07 — Straight answers
Blocked sink or toilet — what do I do first?
Don't pour chemical drain cleaner down it — call a plumber. Caustics rarely clear a real blockage and can damage pipes. The usual causes are tree roots, grease and fat, hair, and too much tissue or toilet paper. We camera-survey first, then clear by hand or hydro jet.
How do I know if I have a gas leak?
Trust your nose: rotten-egg / sulphur smell is the big one. Also hissing near a fitting, a weakened pilot flame, damaged meter or pipework, or unexplained nausea indoors. Don't touch switches — turn gas off at the meter if safe, open windows, get out, call (555) 010-2030.
Repair or replace my hot water system?
Age plus breakdown frequency decides it. Under eight years with a first fault: repair. Past ten and failing every winter: replace. We service Rheem, Rinnai, Bosch, Thermann and Vulcan — gas, electric and solar — and we'll give you both numbers.
What is pipe re-lining?
Repairing pipes from the inside, without digging. A new lining goes into the existing stormwater or sewer pipe, sealing cracks and root entry. Suits concrete stormwater drains, downpipes, sewer stacks, pump lines and grease drains.
