We are Basecamp Yoga, a small studio at 18 Westmoreland Street West in Grey Lynn. Morning Vinyasa before work, slow Yin after it, and a heated room for the days you want to work harder. Class sizes stay small on purpose — teachers know your name and your dodgy hamstring.
Beginners are welcome in almost every class. Tell the teacher it is your first session and you will be looked after. Mats, blocks and straps are provided; the kettle goes on after the Sunday morning class.
“A small room, a warm floor,
and an hour that is entirely yours.”
Six things we do, every week. Class sizes stay small so nobody gets lost in the back row.
Breath-led flowing sequences that build heat and strength — sun salutations, standing balances and a long cool-down. Every pose comes with a modification, so first-timers and regulars share the same room.
Long-held, floor-based poses, three to five minutes each, working into hips, hamstrings and spine. The room stays quiet and dim. Most people leave feeling like they had a proper rest.
A set sequence practised in a heated room. Warm muscles open faster and the practice gets honest quickly. Bring a towel and water, and sit down whenever you need to.
Slower sessions blending gentle movement, guided breathwork and short seated meditation. Built for tight shoulders, busy heads and long weeks.
Weekend intensives on one topic — arm balances, backbends, pranayama, yoga for runners. Two to three hours, small groups, plenty of individual feedback.
A multi-month programme for students who want to teach or understand the practice properly: anatomy, sequencing, philosophy and practice teaching in small cohorts.
Most classes take every level. Teachers demonstrate the full pose and the easier version side by side, so nobody is guessing. New to yoga? Begin with foundations or a gentle Vinyasa and mention it at the desk — the teacher will keep an eye on you.
Hot Yoga follows a set sequence in a heated room. It is the most physical hour on the timetable. Hydrate before class, bring a towel, and rest in child's pose whenever the room gets loud — nobody minds.
Yin is floor-based, prop-heavy and quiet. Poses are held for minutes while the room stays dim. Runners, desk workers and bad sleepers tend to become regulars within a month.
The training programme runs over several months — anatomy, sequencing, philosophy, and teaching real classes with feedback before you graduate. Cohorts stay small so everyone gets genuine attention.

One topic, one weekend, a small group. Inversions, hip openers, breathwork, yoga for runners — two to three hours with real individual feedback.
Workshops are where regulars fix the thing that has been bugging them for months. The room only holds so many mats, so booking early is wise.
A multi-month foundational programme for students ready to teach or simply understand the practice properly. Anatomy, sequencing, philosophy and lots of practice teaching.
Graduates assist in regular classes before teaching their own. Cohorts stay small so everyone gets real feedback, not just a certificate.

Yoga compounds. Two or three sessions a week beats one heroic monthly effort.
